Promoter Eddie Hearn Confirms Joshua Klitschko Fight Will Take Place In April 2017

The much anticipated Joshua Klitschko fight will happen in the new year promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed.

It has been a fight that was thought to be happening in the new year anyway, after Wladimir Klitschko recovers from a current minor injury and of course provided Joshua comes through his next test against American Eric Molina.

But speaking in a media scrum to Fight Hype and other members of the media after this past weekend’s Kovalev and Ward fight in the US, Eddie Hearn has now named the month when it will take place:

“We’ve got (Eric) Molina on December 10th. We’re just finalising the dates and venue now and we’ll do that fight in April. Big fight.”

It will be interesting to see where the venue and location the fight will be. Here is what the shared purse is reported to be.

Previously the bout would have taken place in the Manchester Arena (where the Molina fight will happen instead) but a fight of this proportions between Joshua and Klitschko could easily fill a stadium in the UK given Joshua’s popularity and Klitschko also been well known already to the British public.

April might be a tad early for a stadium, but one that springs to mind could be the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales (formerly known as the Millennium Stadium).

It has a retractable roof that would ensure protection from an adverse weather and it’s been linked with boxing a lot lately.

Maybe this will be the big fight where it gets it’s chance to shine in the boxing world. What a fight it promises to be too.

The old lion against the young lion, two fighters who carry genuine one punch knockout power and two guys who have a history of knowing each other, with Klitschko using Joshua as a sparring partner in the past.
