Talks of a Deontay Wilder vs Hughie Fury fight actually coming to fruition have taken their strongest turn to dat. Hughie himself confirms on Twitter that WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder wants the fight.
A Deontay Wilder vs Hughie Fury fight would certainly be a fun one for the WBC heavyweight world title. One I for one would definitely like to see.
Undefeated UK heavyweight Hughie Fury has shown a lot of promise in recent years after a fast start to his pro career that was derailed for a time due to health reasons, but now with those out of the way, it looks like 2017 is the year he gets his shot at a heavyweight title.
When I spoke to his father and trainer Peter Fury recently he told me as much, as far as 2017 being the year that Hughie will definitely get a shot at a world title.
But it might be coming a little earlier than some may have suspected – possibly February 25th Hughie said himself on Twitter today.
Wilder (37-0-36KO) is currently recovering from an injury suffered in his last fight against Chris Arreola last July, but it expected that he will be fully back to 100% training by early January 2017.
He’s been training with one arm in recent months so by all accounts his recovery is right on track.
Hughie Fury (20-0-10KO) last fought back in April when he defeated Fred Kassi in London.
These are the types of risks and chances that are good to see being taken by a young undefeated fighter like Fury, in terms of putting him in with a big fight relatively early on into his career.
He’s had twenty professional wins now and it’s refreshing to see in a time to see this news, where often fighters’ records are padded and built up for far too long.
An excellent fight. Lets hope they get it over the line.
Hughie also went on to say that no matter what, one of the two following scenarios will be for his next fight with an official announcement expected soon.
