American boxing star Shakur Stevenson signs a deal with a new management team who will be guiding his career as a professional.
It has not been officially announced when the talented American’s professional debut will come just yet, but what we do know now is who will be his management team as Shakur Stevenson signs with a trio of men that includes James Prince, Josh Dubin and current pound for pound rated boxer Andre Ward.
NJ Advance Media broke the news as speculation continues around who will promote the gifted American – who captured a silver medal at the recent 2016 Olympics in Rio.
A few months back according to a source of ours, we understood that there was an offer of $2 million on the table for Stevenson to sign with Floyd Mayweather’s Mayweather Promotions outfit.
However as of this time, nothing has been signed from a promotional context for the boxer just yet.
The fact that Andre Ward will be playing a part in managing Stevenson’s career is an interesting one. It’s not often you hear of an active top level pro boxer getting involved in another active fighter’s career in this capacity.
There is no doubting the benefits of this of course, with Ward having significant experience built up to date in the boxing business and understanding it from a modern day fighter’s perspective.
It is thought that Ward was a boxing idol for Stevenson growing up so this will likely have a positive impact from a motivational sense too.
19 year old Stevenson is expected in 2017 to make his professional debut in the sport of boxing.
