Canelo Chavez Jr and De La Hoya Embroiled In War of Words

Canelo Chavez Jr and Oscar De La Hoya exchange words in public following recent reports that a fight between the two popular boxers is set to be made in 2017.

Canelo Chavez Jr and De La Hoya arguing in public

Around Christmas 2016 talks first surfaced that an all Mexican showdown between Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is in the works for 2017, likely at a weight between 160-168lbs.

Further coal has been poured on this pugilistic fire of speculation recently with some suggesting that a potential mega showdown on Mexican holiday weekend Cinco De Mayo could take place.

Rumors of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on May 6th are being floated at the moment.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr is saying the hold up is on Canelo’s promoter’s end however, in terms of the fight getting made:

Solo estoy esperando que me manden el contrato para pelear no me lo an hecho llegar. Yo dije si a todo @GoldenBoyBoxing #teamchavezjrmexico

— Julio Cesar Chavez (@jcchavezjr1) January 11, 2017

Which translates in English to:

“Only I’m waiting for that I send the contract to fight not me it an made get. I said if at all @GoldenBoyBoxing #teamchavezjrmexico”

To which Golden Boy Promotions head honcho and promoter Oscar De La Hoya replied:

Junior, we gave you the opportunity to fight @Canelo. Your manager has the contract. Stop tweeting lies, go sign and we’ll be on for May 6. https://t.co/GvQIMWdCzG

— Oscar De La Hoya (@OscarDeLaHoya) January 12, 2017

Canelo is urging his Mexican counterpart to sign the contract:

@jcchavezjr1 no dejes que te traten como a un niño, el contrato lo tiene tu gente desde ayer fírmalo y que se haga la pelea ??

— Canelo Alvarez (@Canelo) January 12, 2017

Again, which translates as:

“Not let that you try as to a child, the contract it has your people from yesterday sign it and that will make the fight ??”

What a cracking fight this will be if they can get it over the line, and a good precursor for then what should hopefully be a Canelo vs Golovkin super fight in September (should he beat Chavez Jr).
