Best heavyweight boxers right now out of Tyson Fury, David Haye, Deontay Wilder or Anthony Joshua? We polled our readers to find out.
The heavyweight division is really alive and kicking once again, blown wide open initially since Tyson Fury relinquished his titles in 2016 and now since one of them has been competed for.
That was his WBO title, won by New Zealander Joseph Parker in a hard fought battle over Mexican-American Andy Ruiz Jr.
Parker is now set to face another talented young heavyweight in Manchester’s Hughie Fury this April in his first title defence.
However we wanted to poll our readers on who they thought the best heavyweight boxers right now are out of four of perhaps the more well known heavyweights and champions, in the UK and US in particular.
The results were interesting to say the least:
(Best heavyweight boxers right now out of these four?)
We went with a theme of emoji based voting for our Facebook fans, which resulted in Anthony Joshua just shading Tyson Fury by the narrowest of margins:
So for housekeeping, that resulted in a final tally of 412 votes for Joshua, 407 for Tyson Fury, 97 for David Haye and 67 for Deontay Wilder.
I personally thought Haye might have received a few more but it seems fight fans are still to be convinced on the ‘Hayemaker’ since his return to the sport in 2016 that has seen him ease his way back in terms of competition.
He competes next month against the first name on his record probably since Derek Chisora a few years back.
He fights current WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew in a heavyweight bout being shown on pay per view in the UK.
Wilder returns to action this month against former football player Gerald Washington in a fight most expect him to come through comfortably.
Joshua fights in the biggest fight of his life next April against Wladimir Klitschko – a fight that will tell a lot on perhaps where he really stands in the above question.
Tyson Fury is expected to return to boxing in 2017. Exactly when is not known at the time of this article.
