David Price vs Christian Hammer proved to be a devastating night for Liverpool’s David Price in the end.
The likeable Liverpudlian ultimately suffered the fourth stoppage loss of his professional boxing career.
The contest came to an end in round 7 – as Christian Hammer retained his WBO European heavyweight title.
At the time of the stoppage it seemed as if Price had simply gassed out and ran out of stamina, as Hammer poured on the shots that ultimately left the referee no choice but to wave off the fight.
The bout had turned into a war or attrition leading up to the stoppage.
Some questioned that Price weighing in over 19 stone (plus) before the fight could have been a contributing factor towards him fatiguing in the contest.
It has been sad to watch the career of Price slowly deteriorate like it has since he initially got off to a fantastic start in his professional tenure back in 2009.
At one time he was 15-0 and many thought he was the next big thing in the heavyweight division, possessing an incredibly powerful right hand.
But alas, it was not meant to be.
Two stoppage defeats early on in his pro career to American Tony Thompson seemed to be the catalyst for the downward trajectory his career took.
Will he retire after this? Only David Price knows the answer to that.
A true gentleman and one of boxing’s genuine good guys, but a future world champion in the now stacked heavyweight division?
Most likely not to be fair. At this stage.
