Eleider Alvarez (21-0-10KO) takes on Lucian Bute (32-3-1-25KO) on February 24th at the Centre Videotron, Quebec City, Quebec in Canada.
Undefeated Columbian Alvarez’ WBC (Silver) light-heavyweight strap will be on the line in Bute’s home soil.
It promises to be an interesting match with a lot on the line for both guys at 175lbs.
The winner will get a crack at WBC light-heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson.
So all is to play for.
Speaking ahead of the fight Alvarez said today:
“It is a very good opportunity for me, fighting a good opponent who is very popular, especially in Canada.”
He continued:
“He’s is a southpaw, like Stevenson, plus it’s also a good opportunity for me to rise my popularity. And with all due respect to Bute, someone unable to beat Bute doesn’t deserve a shot at Stevenson.”
Timing-wise the fight comes at a good time in general for the light-heavyweight division, with the likes of Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward also at the top of the 175lbs pile.
Alvarez last fought in December 2016 when he outpointed Norbert Dabrowski by a unanimous decision.
Bute’s last outing in a boxing ring came back in April 2016 when he fought Badou Jack to a majority draw in Washington.
