Welterweight champ Keith Thurman on Garcia dad’s Angel Garcia’s use of language that caused a huge storm recently at a press conference.
Danny Garcia’s father is as colorful a character as you’ll see in boxing, who sometimes over steps the mark with his pre-fight antics before his son’s fights.
Recently he definitely did this and was at perhaps his most controversial ever, when he said some things at a public press conference ahead of his son and Keith Thurman’s highly anticipated world welterweight unification showdown next month.
On Angel Garcia’s choice of language at the press conference and antics, speaking to Fight Hype Keith Thurman said:
“A New Yorker from the streets might want to get in Angel’s face more than I care about. He disrespected a lot of people with his comments.”
He later added:
“In a professional setting it definitely was for worse. It’s unnecessary.”
It is understood following the controversial press conference that Angel Garcia will not be allowed speak at any more press events prior to the fight.
The fight will take place on March 4th at the Barclays Center in Brookyln, New York.
It will be for both the WBC and WBA (Super) welterweight world titles – with both men’s long standing undefeated records also on the line.
What a fight it promises to be.
