The Kell Brook Bramall Lane stadium dream in his hometown of Sheffield took a distinctly positive step in the right direction towards happening today.
Recently it was confirmed that terms had been agreed for the fight between IBF welterweight champion Brook’s promoters and that of American boxing maestro Errol Spence Jr.
While terms are agreed, a definitive venue is still be ironed out.
However it now looks like there is a clear front runner.
Brook’s promoter Eddie Hearn today posted a short clip on his Instagram account walking around the ground and said:
“Got to make this happen.”
Those words will no doubt come as music to the ears of UK boxing fans, and indeed American fight fans looking to travel over to the UK in May to support their man Spence Jr.
This would mark the second time so far in 2017 an outdoor boxing event will take place in the UK.
This April the first stadium show in the UK will take place of the year when Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko collide on April 29th at Wembley Stadium in front of 90,000.
If Brook was looking for some added advantage against Spence Jr, having now being obligated to boil all the way down to the 147lbs limit again to defend his belt – he may be very close to it if he can secure home advantage of these proportions.
