The Cecilia Brækhus vs Klara Svensson fight this past Friday proved to be another victorious one for Braekhus, and indeed female pro boxing.
Not many might realize that Braekhus is the only current world champion in boxing today that holds every major title in her weight class (WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO).
She took on her number one ranked contender last night in the form of ‘Swedish Princess’ Klara Svensson, with Michael Buffer even doing the announcing on the night.
‘The First Lady of Boxing’ Brækhus put on a solid boxing display in front of her home fans in Oslo, Norway to win a unanimous decision and take her record to 30-0-8KO.
The Tom Loeffler promoted fighter is arguably one of the best pound for pound fighters in women’s boxing today.
Here’s what happened in the Cecilia Brækhus vs Klara Svensson fight in Norway:
At welterweight, a future match with recently turned pro from Ireland Katie Taylor might be a bit much to hope for however, as Braekhus is a bit bigger than Taylor.
But never say never.
If Taylor’s pro career keeps gaining momentum in the coming years perhaps a catchweight fight of some description could be made.
Or even Taylor might consider moving up to welterweight in pursuit of what would probably be one of the biggest fights to be made in women’s boxing.
Another big fight down the road for Braekhus could be against another recently turned pro in Claressa Shields, who campaigns at middleweight – which would need Braekhus to move up in weight.
