WBC heavyweight champion of the world chimes in with his take on this weekend’s world welterweight title showdown in New York.
Wilder is coming off his own in-ring appearance just last weekend that saw him record a win over Gerald Washington, as well as having been involved in this controversial story after the fight.
Attention has now turned to this weekend’s big welterweight fight in the US between Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman however.
Speaking to Elie Seckbach of ES News – Wilder on Thurman vs Garcia said:
“I love both of them guys equally. For me it’s tough because every fight we’ve seen Danny in, he has some fights that are controversial whether he wins or loses. One thing about Danny Garcia no matter what people say is he has always prevailed in the big fights.”
He added:
“But on the other hand we have Keith Thurman as well too. Whether it’s the first round or the twelfth round Keith Thurman can fight. He comes with everything. He’s going to try to knock him out.”
It will be interesting to see if it does turn into a shoot-out type fight, like some believe it will, who will carry the heavier firepower and have the best punch resistance of the two.
More than anything, it’s the type of fight that represents progress in pro boxing in the US in that it pits two of the world’s best fighters against each other in their primes and with their unbeaten records on the line.
I can’t pick a winner and for that reason alone, I’m looking forward to it.
