The Keith Thurman vs Garcia purse ahead of this weekend’s fight as per the State Athletic Commission is now confirmed.
The fight this weekend will see both the WBC and WBA (Super) world welterweight titles on the line at the Barclays Center in New York.
Ahead of the fight, Mitch Abramson of The Ring has reported that both fighters will make $2 million dollars each as their disclosed fight purses – as per the New York State Athletic Commission.
After sponsorship and other bits and pieces they will probably earn a fair bit more, but the above represents the disclosed amount as per the commission.
It is considerably more than Adrien Broner made in his last fight on Showtime a couple of weeks ago, where he earned half of that for his disclosed fight purse ($1 million), again, for his disclosed Commission fight purse.
There has been a steady return it seems to fight purse valuations in the US boxing world in recent times.
It was thought in recent years that many fighters were getting paid huge amounts of money, in some cases overly so for the calibre of matchups, following the initial formation of the Premier Boxing Champions venture.
However the quality of fights is also consistently improving in US boxing it seems at the moment, so those purses are likely to only get higher again for pro fighters.
