Joshua Greer might not have been known by many before last night, but following what can only be described as a baseball bat style collision with his right fist and his unfortunate opponent’s jaw on Friday night, he’ll certainly have a few more fans now.
There has been a few highlight reel knockouts in the early boxing calendar so far in 2017. Perhaps that trend is indicative for things to come for the year ahead, an explosive, sizeable one for the noble art.
122lbs contender James Greer extended his professional record this past Friday night in Detroit, Michigan to 12-1-1 (5KO) on the Claressa Shields undercard.
Here’s the moment the bout came to an abrupt close last night. He timed previously unbeaten hometown man James Smith onto this titan of a shot:

As conclusive and devastating a finish as you’ll see anywhere in the sweet science thus far in 2017. Thankfully Smith got back to his feet and did not suffer any serious injury following the blow.
As for Joshua Greer, he now progresses in the super-bantamweight division where no doubt big fights will be plentiful for him if he keeps chalking in performances like the above.
