Pound for pound number one Roman Gonzalez has weighed in today ahead of his latest challenge tomorrow night. He’ll feature on the Gennady Golovkin show in New York at Madison Square Garden this weekend.
He is (by most) recognised as the pound for pound number one current boxer on the planet but despite his precocious skills, his fame levels and exposure perhaps isn’t where it should be.
It has improved a bit in recent years since fighting more on HBO though. No doubt this weekend’s massive card on the channel in New York will give him a bit more of a push in the right direction too.
He’s also bidding to go 47-0 which is no small feat in itself. On top of the fact he’s a four-weight world champion and has blitzed the lower divisions as magnificently as any fighter in recent boxing memory.
With 38 knockouts in his professional career he’s a big hitter, for sure. But it’s his blinding hand speed and movement that has dazzled on route to a lot of these stoppages.
A class act in and out of the ring too.
He defends his WBC super-flyweight world title tomorrow night against big punching Wisaksil Wangek of Thailand who’s stopped 38 opponents inside the distance of his 41 wins.
