Irish fighter Michael Conlan gives an honest assessment in his immediate in-ring post fight interview following his debut in Madison Square Garden.
It was Conlan’s night (full fight video here) as he scored a 3rd round TKO victory on his debut in front of a passionate crowd of his fellow countrymen in attendance.
He was realistic in his self-assessment afterwards, but he shouldn’t be too hard on himself. He did win by stoppage on his debut after all.
Michael Conlan said in his post-fight interview in the ring:
“It was nerve racking but at the same time I think I handled the pressure well for a debut fight. I do believe I’ll be Ireland’s greatest ever fighter and a terrific world champion. This is the start of something great. Look at this atmosphere. Look at this crowd. Where else would you get it?”
Conlan added:
“I said before the fight I would do him in the third round. I knew in the first two rounds I wasn’t going to go for anything. I was going to take my time, break it in until I got the victory by stoppage. By TKO. I would have liked to get the more clean knockout but it is what is.”
He concluded:
“I don’t think I will ever forget this in my life. This is a really special night.”
