The Kell Brook vs Spence at Bramall Lane stadium fight had been highly speculated in recent week. But now, an official date and venue announcement has come from the organizers.
Matchroom have confirmed today that IBF world welterweight champion Kell Brook will get his dream stadium fight in Sheffield against Errol Spence Jr. in front of his hometown fans in the UK.
Bramall Lane for those not familiar with it from outside the UK, is the home of Sheffield United soccer club in England and has a capacity of 32,702.
It will be the first time that a world title boxing match has been shown at the stadium to the best of this writer’s knowledge.
What an atmosphere awaits the young American Errol Spence Jr on his travels.
Spence gets his long awaited IBF mandatory title shot at Brook. One he’s been waiting for some time for, so expect fireworks come May 27th.
Many within the American boxing circuit are tipping Spence Jr as the next big US boxing star and if he were to travel to the UK and strip the belt from a champion like Brook, he’d certainly be on his way.
Ironically, that’s how Brook got the title himself – by travelling to the US to defeat the then champion at the time Shawn Porter.
Can Spence Jr reverse the roles? Time will tell.
What a fight it promises to be. Two of the world’s best 147lbs fighters from either side of the pond in an outdoor summer stadium fight.
