Sergey Kovalev signs contact for Andre Ward rematch he confirms – as negotiations look set to be concluded soon by both teams.
Kovalev signs and it appears the ball is in now in the court of Andre Ward and his promoters RocNation to finalize a deal that would see both men compete in a rematch this year.
The first fight ended in controversy with many feeling Ward did not deserve to get the unanimous decision victory back in November when the pair last competed.
The pay per view numbers afterwards for the fight didn’t exactly set the world on fire either.
Despite on paper at least, the fight was thought to have been beforehand the best match up available to be made in boxing last year.
Kovalev did drop Ward in the fight but the American did show tremendous heart and courage to recover. The time for both men to set the record straight looks to be fast approaching with Kovalev confirming:
Couple days ago I have signed new memo for rematch which was send to me by @RocNation.Still waiting on SonofJudges to sign it.@Main_Events

The two fighters still represent arguably the best two light-heavyweights on the planet. Alongside WBC champion Adonis Stevenson perhaps.
A definitive result in the rematch would surely prove who is the best 175lbs fighter and the world.
Considering the controversy of the decision in the first fight, the rematch would likely sell a lot better too if it was promoted well in advance of whatever date is expected for the part II.
