A Katie Taylor Croke Park world title challenge for a title could be building as she strolled to victory against Milena Koleva of Bulgaria Saturday night.
A Katie Taylor Croke Park stadium fight no doubt would be sweet, sweet music to the ears of Irish fight fans and casual sports fans alike.
Her latest outing came on the undercard of the Jorge Linares v Anthony Crolla WBA lightweight title fight at the Manchester Arena last night.
Koleva was a clear step up in class for Taylor having fought for the IBF Super-Featherweight title in January.
This was also the first time that Taylor had fought over 8 rounds but the relentless speed and power displayed by the Bray woman right up until the final bell will have dispelled any fears over her durability.
Koleva was durable and had some power in her locker with three knockout victories during 2016 before her world title challenge, so the fact that Taylor was so superior during the clash will bode well for further challenges to come.
Attention now turns to a fight on the April 29th undercard of Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko before heading to the US in the summer where HBO and Showtime will both battle over the right to showcase Taylor on their network.
Assuming Katie continues to sweep aside her opponents in the same manner as we have seen so far, her Promoter Eddie Hearn has stated that the plan is for a world title fight around September.
It’s clear that Taylor is now ready for a world title fight and has realistically been ready for some time but the buzz and hype that Eddie Hearn and Sky are building around their new star is an extremely important factor in her professional career.
Judging from the support and plaudits she has received thus far, she certainly won’t have any trouble selling tickets for a blockbuster world title challenge and if she manages to put in another stellar performance during her big moment, the world really will be at Miss Taylor’s feet.
Given her massive name in Ireland as a sports star and the momentum she currently has, who’s to say a Katie Taylor Croke Park stadium fight might not be on the horizon for this budding star in a world title fight.
