Billy Joe Saunders Miguel Cotto Fight Something WBO Champion Is Considering If Golovkin Doesn’t Sign

A Billy Joe Saunders Miguel Cotto middleweight fight might not have been something many fight fans would have expected.

Following middleweight number one Gennady Golovkin’s recent win over Daniel Jacobs at Madison Square Garden, after the fight ‘GGG’ said he wants to unify the division next.

To do so, he needs to win the WBO belt currently held by Englishman Saunders.

So if what Golovkin wants himself counts for anything, this seems the logical fight to be made next up (before a potential Canelo fight in September).

That would mean Golovkin will need to be back in the ring by the summer time which shouldn’t be a problem though, as at the start of the year his promoter did say his fighter would box three times this year.

The Jacobs fight was indeed a tough fight for Golovkin, his toughest to date in fact, but by all accounts the deal to take on Saunders is now in Golovkin’s court with Billy saying recently he has agreed everything on his side.

Today however, WBO champion at 160lbs Billy Joe Saunders has told his fans that a fight with Miguel Cotto is also an option he’d love:

Billy Joe Saunders Miguel Cotto fight could be possible

While Golovkin vs Saunders seems like it will get over the line soon, a Billy Joe Saunders Miguel Cotto fight would be an intriguing watch.

Everything now appears to be resting square on the shoulders of Golovkin and his team in terms of what happens next.

A team who must be very, very busy at the moment as they simultaneously negotiate with Canelo Alvarez’ team for a September fight.

Saunders (24-0-12KO) has been out of the ring for some time now. He last fought in March 2016 but Cotto (40-5-33KO) has been out of the ring even longer.

The Puerto Rican boxing legend has not fought since back in November of 2015 when he dropped a unanimous decision loss to fellow countryman Canelo Alvarez.

Saunders has said that Golovkin has until the end of this week to sign an agreement to fight him:
