Edward Bilbey Foundation crowdfunding page set up by Boxing England with the permission of the young boxer’s family.
Last week the world of boxing was tragically hit again with the news that one of it’s brave warriors had lost his life too early.
Ed Bilbey, a 17 year old boxer from the UK was rushed to hospital last week following an amateur bout and was pronounced dead in hospital.
Messages of support have been pouring in since from the boxing world in tribute to the young man and in support of his family and friends.
Now Boxing England, the national governing body of sport for boxing in England, have set up this crowdfunding page to help support Ed’s family in creation of the Eddie Bilbey Foundation.
The money raised will go towards a Trust fund which his family will set up to remember Eddie for years to come.
The sad news last week comes at a time for the sport of boxing that has seen a number of similar sad moments over the last 12 months.
Outside of amateur boxing, in the pro boxing world, Nick Towell from Scotland lost his life last year following a fight, as well as middleweight Nick Blackwell ending up in a coma following a match with Chris Eubank Jr.
Thankfully Blackwell made a recovery but all these incidents remind us of despite modern technology and medical science in 2017, that this sport is still to this day a very dangerous one with it’s participant’s courage to step in the ring to be respected at all times.
Everyone at Boxing News and Views wishes our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Edward Bilbey.
