Promoter Eddie Hearn responds to rumors that have been circulating that the Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko fight is off.
Some last minute panic broke today it has emerged as fears that the Klitschko vs Joshua fight at the end of the month could be off due to an injury to Klitschko.
Promoter Eddie Hearn has dismissed this quickly however. Speaking to James Helder of IFL TV Hearn said of the Joshua vs Klitschko is off rumors that:
“It was a very important call but it was a very good call. I’ll tell you what happened because I don’t mind. Ron Lewis from The Times sent Anthony a message saying is it true that Wladimir is out of the fight because of an eye injury? Let me tell you, we’re sitting here now, I need a new pair of pants. So I had to phone Bernd Boente (Klitschko promoter) and he didn’t pick up which was even worst. He just phoned me back and said what is this rubbish? Absolute farce. Everything is 100%.”
Good news for boxing fans there.
What a catastrophe that would have been so close to April 29th.
With literally a week of training to go and the fact they are heavyweights that don’t need to make the weight, perhaps wrapping them in the proverbial cotton wool might be appropriate.
