Eddie Hearn Responds To Speculation That Joshua vs Klitschko Is Off

Promoter Eddie Hearn responds to rumors that have been circulating that the Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko fight is off.

Some last minute panic broke today it has emerged as fears that the Klitschko vs Joshua fight at the end of the month could be off due to an injury to Klitschko.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has dismissed this quickly however. Speaking to James Helder of IFL TV Hearn said of the Joshua vs Klitschko is off rumors that:

“It was a very important call but it was a very good call. I’ll tell you what happened because I don’t mind. Ron Lewis from The Times sent Anthony a message saying is it true that Wladimir is out of the fight because of an eye injury? Let me tell you, we’re sitting here now, I need a new pair of pants. So I had to phone Bernd Boente (Klitschko promoter) and he didn’t pick up which was even worst. He just phoned me back and said what is this rubbish? Absolute farce. Everything is 100%.”

Good news for boxing fans there.

What a catastrophe that would have been so close to April 29th.

With literally a week of training to go and the fact they are heavyweights that don’t need to make the weight, perhaps wrapping them in the proverbial cotton wool might be appropriate.

It’s boxing’s biggest fight of the year by far around the world. One that if Joshua were to win, could have a significantly positive impact for the sport of boxing around the world.

The heavyweight division has always been the glamor sport weight class and if a genuine unified champion comes along that can knock people out in exciting fashion, one suspects that it could have a big impact for boxing.

But the question is how good is Anthony Joshua? We’re about to find out. If he we’re to knock Wladimir Klitschko out cold – the hype train will become a reality.
