Luis Ortiz Injured – Out Of Berto vs Porter Card

Cuban heavyweight Luis Ortiz injured and has been taken off the upcoming Andre Berto vs Shawn Porter fight card.

Luis Ortiz has had to withdraw from next weekend’s card at the Barclays Centre in New York. It is due to an injury sustained to his hand ESPN’s Dan Rafael has reported:

Luis Ortiz injured

A frustrating piece of news for a talented heavyweight. Ortiz was looking to build more momentum towards that elusive world title shot that continues to evade him.

Ortiz (27-0-23KO) was signed by Matchroom in the UK last year. He had perhaps a less than explosive debut for them in Monaco when he outpointed American Malik Scott back in November.

However he followed that up with a stoppage win against Dave ‘White Rhino’ Allen in December. Allen took the fight on short notice by all accounts.

It has been a long road for the 38 year old Ortiz who will hope to finally get his long awaited shot at a world title before the end of the year.

It is not known how serious the hand injury is just yet.

For those not familiar with the work of Cuban heavyweight Luis Ortiz, this fine compilation video from Boxing Legends TV YouTube (hat tip) shows some of his best knockouts:
