Julio Cesar Chavez Sr speaks about his son being bipolar in candid and revealing fashion ahead of the biggest fight of his son’s life.
Chavez Sr is known for being one of if not Mexico’s greatest ever boxers in history. He knows more than most about the mental pressures and challenges professional boxing can bring.
His son is in final preparations at the moment for next month’s May 5th showdown with Canelo. It will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
By all accounts Chavez Jr is in the shape of his life. His weight is well down and the worry of him making the weight is not thought to be a concern.
He’ll be the bigger man by far in there with Canelo. Without doubt. The weight of a nation will be on him and his opponent as he and Canelo fight for the right to be Mexico’s numero uno.
That folks at Pound 4 Pound TV spotted this interview by Chavez Sr with ESPN Deportes ahead of the fight who went into great detail about his son:
The above paints the picture of a less than ideal training camp for Chavez Jr. Then again, it’s probably indicative of his usual training camps.
The reality is he will be in top shape come fight night. He also has two people in his father and Nacho Beristain of the highest calibre behind him going into it.
There is a genuine dislike between the two fighters too. Expect both to be swinging for the fences at some points in this one.
