The Joshua vs Klitschko TV channel and network information has been officially released. It’s a big one, too.
The Joshua vs Klitschko TV channel in the US won’t be just one channel. It will be on two.
For only the third time in history, TV giants HBO and Showtime have decided to work together in boxing. Both will air the same fight in the US.
Showtime have the live broadcasting rights in the afternoon US time. HBO will carry the fight later that night.
If the fight is a good one, given afternoon times can typically be low in the US – HBO could still do quite well out of it ratings-wise.
The event organisers today have confirmed that Showtime will broadcast the fight live in the US at 4:15 p.m. ET/1:15 p.m. PT.
HBO coverage will commence later that evening at approximately 10:45 p.m. ET/PT. It will be on a slight tape delay.
The fight will be carried in the UK and Ireland live on Sky Sports Box Office. It will be charged for the first time ever at the price of £20 in the UK.
It is expected to shatter UK pay per view records for boxing. Such as these records for Mayweather vs Pacquiao and Froch vs Groves II.
It is the first time a fight in the UK has been shown by both Showtime and HBO. It is only the third time in history that both companies have done something like this in US boxing.
The other two occasions were Mayweather vs Pacquiao and Mike Tyson vs Lennox Lewis. Thus conveying the magnitude of this fight.
Smart move by TV execs here.
They know this fight could be a springboard for the sport around the world since the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight two years ago:
