Scott Quigg defeats Viorel Simion on the undercard of Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium.
Fighting for the first time under Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, Scott Quigg won his featherweight bout against Viorel Simion via a unanimous decision.
It was a tough, rough and at times, a brutal fight though.
Simion proved to be an extremely game competitor who soaked up a lot of punishment from Quigg but was happy to dish it out too.
Quigg noted after the fight that he was happy to get off to a winning start with Freddie Roach. Rival and IBF featherweight world champion Lee Selby was quoted as saying straight after the fight:
“Easy work.”
Referring to Quigg, one suspects.
Quigg afterwards expressed his interest in the fight and his promoter Eddie Hearn said Quigg is ready for the fight with Selby next up.
While Quigg and Roach might not be totally satisfied with the performance of their first fight together, the important thing was they got the win.
Quigg was previously trained by Joe Gallagher of Manchester but recently made the move to relocate to the US after joining Freddie Roach’s Wild Card gym.
The win tonight improved Quigg’s professional boxing record to 33-1-2-24KO.
