The Anthony Joshua post fight interview with the folks from American TV included a brilliant little shout out to a certain Shannon Briggs.
Anthony Joshua is not just a big name in British boxing now, but in world boxing. Unquestionably.
He’s been able to bring a fair bit of exposure back to the sport for the first time since that night in May 2015 between Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao.
He’s done it as a heavyweight though, in exciting fashion with knockouts and after his performance against Wladimir Klitschko, showed plenty of heart too.
Nothing against the lower weight classes, they form the majority of professional boxing of course.
But there’s something about the heavyweight division that will always have the biggest draw for the sport when real heavyweight title fights like Joshua vs Klitschko roll around.
Before the fight against Klitschko, Joshua was quoted as saying he most likely won’t bother fighting in America if he doesn’t need to, and why would he?
If you can sell out 90,000 soccer stadiums on you’re doorstep the world is certainly you’re proverbial oyster.
However in his post-fight interview with US TV when speaking with Max Kellerman of HBO – he paid respect to the US and a certain Shannon Briggs too in this great little moment:

No doubt ‘Lets Go Champ’ himself was watching the fight himself on Saturday.
Shannon Briggs fights for the WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight title later this summer and most likely if he wins, he will look to go for one last big fight against one of the other champions before he retires.
As for Joshua boxing in America, I’d be surprised if he didn’t fight there at least once over the next couple of years.
