Julio Cesar Chavez Jr lets fly verbally here during a live interview on ESPN ahead of his big fight with Canelo Alvarez.
Making weight is never a pleasant experience for professional fighters on fight week and particularly those who are cutting considerable weight.
This weekend’s Cinco De Mayo mega fight between Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr takes place at a catchweight of 164.5lbs.
Both men made the weight at the first time of asking ahead of their fight at the MGM in Las Vegas, but the run up to the weigh in wasn’t exactly a smooth one for Chavez in particular.
He actually came in a bit lighter than the designated weight than most expected.
Some suggested that he was grinding so hard to make the weight he could have under shot it, while others have mentioned the one million dollar fine per pound over the limit warning was enough motivation to ensure he came in under weight.
Leading up to the fight this week Chavez Jr was on a Latin ESPN channel talking about the fight.
For the benefit of non-Spanish speaking readers of ours it is understood that the tone of the interview was not particularly positive towards Chavez Jr.
Questioning him with a tone of criticism it has been reported by colleagues in Mexico.
Chavez Jr who was cutting weight, had enough of the hostility and towards the end of the interview told one of the reporters to:
“Go f*** yourself.”
He then proceeded to walk of set straight afterwards. Here’s how it happened:
