The UFC president reveals how Golovkin vs Canelo affects Mayweather vs McGregor following the news of the fight getting made.
While talks of the Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor boxing match appear to have hit a halt for the time being, for once, boxing as a sport is the one that is delivering fights that fans want to see in a timely fashion.
UFC star McGregor has been involved in some big events in MMA over the last couple of years, granted, but boxing as a sport is starting to put on the big fights that fans want to see once again too.
This was conveyed at the weekend with the news that Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez middleweight title fight will take place on September 16th at a venue to be confirmed – most likely in Las Vegas.
This has put a spanner in the works for the Mayweather vs McGregor date it has turned out which was been lined up for the same weekend.
UFC President Dana White told Fight Hub that:
“We just lost our date to Canelo and GGG, but good, that’s a good fight. I’ll be at that one, too. The fans win that fight. That’s gonna be a real fight. That’s gonna be a fun one.”
Good to see that big fights and events in combat sports are being made all over the place at the moment however.
There is a strong school of thought emerging that MMA and boxing actually help each other in term’s of forcing one another to compete harder with to try to out do each other with big fights and events.
Competition has only ever been a good thing, after all. For the full interview above check it out here on Fight Hub TV YouTube (hat tip)
