Gary Russell Jr chalked in another impressive performance to retain his world title on route to a potential Lomachenko showdown.
WBC featherweight champion of the world Gary Russell Jr broke down Oscar Escandon on route to stopping him in the 7th round last night in Oxon Hill.

Gary Russell Jr established control of the fight pretty much straight away, establishing his distance and jab over the smaller Escandon who couldn’t live with the peppering combinations coming his way.
It was a homecoming in Maryland for Russell Jr who excited a near sold out hometown crowd in attendance.
Russell Jr dropped his man in the third round, but to the credit of Escandon he came back bravely in the fourth and fifth rounds but it wasn’t to be enough.
Russell Jr stepped on the gas again in the 7th round and dropped a clearly hurt Escandon who was in no position to continue according to the referee who stopped the fight.
Plenty of options are available for Gary Russell Jr next – but it was a certain Vasyl Lomachenko who he called out after the fight.
