The Shannon Briggs world title shot against Fres Equendo has been thrown into disarray after some last minute drug test reports.
Many boxing fans have been looking forward to the Shannon Briggs world title fight next month for the WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight belt.
That could all be about to come dramatically crashing down for the ‘Lets Go Champ’ movement started by Briggs.
In recent years Briggs has returned to form and got his life back together after a period of depression and severe weight gain after temporary retirement.
His mantra of ‘Lets Go Champ’ has become a global catchphrase of positive vibes – as has his colorful daily social media videos.
Fans of his will be gutted to hear that Dan Rafael of ESPN has reported today that Briggs has failed a VADA urine drug test for allegedly having:
“Dramatically elevated levels of testosterone.”
Briggs was due to fight on June 3rd at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Hollywood, Florida. No announcement has been made by the WBA (World Boxing Association) at this time.
No comment has came from Shannon Briggs either as of yet.
Heartbreaking news for his many fans he’s built up over the last few years in particular if the above is true and the fight is called off.
