Errol Spence’s secret weapon in preparation for Kell Brook has the young undefeated fighter from Texas more than confident.
Errol Spence Jr is nicknamed ‘The Truth’ but this weekend the phrase is going to be put to the ultimate test thus far. The acid test comes on Saturday night.
A fight that even the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard is excited about. Spence has travelled to the UK to challenge Kell Brook for his IBF welterweight title this coming weekend.
A determined Brook too, coming off the back of a painful loss last September up at the middleweight division to Gennady Golovkin.
Spence will expect to meet a ferocious Brook in the ring – perhaps one of the best versions of Brook seen in recent times if training rumors are anything to go by.
However Errol Spence has a secret weapon for Brook ahead of Saturday, one of his sparring partners used ahead of the fight. Not just a sparring partner though, a world champion no less – who Spence believes to be superior to Brook.
Speaking on the Behind The Ropes television show on Sky ahead of the bout in the UK, Spence paid tribute to this fighter helping to get him ready for ‘Special K’ come Saturday night:
“Jermell Charlo spars with me a lot, you know we’re in their trading shots – you’re in there going a lot of these rounds with a world champion. It’s great work to get ready for Kell Brook because he’s longer, he’s bigger than Kell Brook. I think he’s faster too.”
Charlo is the current WBO super-welterweight world champion and upon inspecting the tale of the tape, he does indeed stand a bit taller than Kell Brook (by 2 inches) and also possesses a 4 inch reach advantage over Brook.
