Boxing News and Views has learned that the Golovkin vs Canelo fight location could be close to getting confirmed for September 16th.
Since the announcement that the long awaited Golovkin vs Canelo fight will be taking place on September 16th for the middleweight championship of the world – attention has now turned to where the fight will take place.
While not confirmed just yet, we caught up with the Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director today Mr.Bob Bennett who informed Boxing News and Views of the following:
“Right now everything is speculative as we speak. Gennady (Golovkin) has stated in the past that he would like to fight in Las Vegas. Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions have stated in the past that they have the highest regard for the NSAC (Nevada State Athletic Commission). I think Richard Sturm and the MGM are second to none when it comes to promoting fights like this nationally, as well as internationally and of course the NSAC would welcome and embrace the opportunity.”
Indeed the MGM have a rich history in putting on world championship boxing of the highest calibre with a lot of the modern era’s biggest fights taking place at the venue, if it is to be the MGM that is.
The fight will be for the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight titles and for the undisputed right for the winner to call himself the number one middleweight boxer in the world today.
