Following the controversial first fight the officials have been confirmed for the Ward vs Kovalev rematch we have learned.
Sergey Kovalev and Andre Ward battled it out for 12 rounds back in November 2016 that ultimately saw Andre Ward win a unanimous decision in the end.
The result was debated by many fans and media outlets on the night and for months since the fight for that matter.
The great thing about the sport of boxing however is that there is always a way to settle an argument like this – in the ring.
Recent controversies in pro boxing that spring to mind like Carl Froch vs George Groves a few years back was ultimately given the ability to have a part two where in the second fight, the result was left beyond reasonable doubt so to speak.
Namely a devastating knockout from Froch.
Perhaps Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev will both be looking to take the outcome out of the judges’ hands this time around – resulting in the fans’ being the winner in a fan-friendly fight.
The fight will take place on June 16th at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas and Executive Director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission Mr Bob. Bennett today informed Boxing News and Views of the following officials for the bout:
Referee:
Tony Weeks (Las Vegas, Nevada, USA)
Judges:
Dave Moretti (Las Vegas, Nevada, USA)
Glenn Feldman (Connecticut, USA)
Steve Weisfeld (New Jersey, USA)
The fight will be contested for the WBA, IBF and WBO light-heavyweight world titles on June 16th. Andre Ward’s current professional record stands at 31-0-15KO with Kovalev’s being 30-1-1-26KO.
