Liverpool’s Tony Bellew explains why he believes Kell Brook could have fought on with the eye injury against Errol Spence Jr.
Following the Kell Brook vs Errol Spence Jr world welterweight title fight this weekend – former world champion Tony Bellew straight after the fight working as a pundit mentioned he thought Brook could have battled on.
This came after Brook retired from the fight in the 11th round following what was later revealed aftrewards to be a broken eye socket sustained in the 7th round.
Initially it was thought that the damaged eye was the same one he injured in his previous bout against Gennady Golovkin, but his promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed afterwards that it was in fact the other eye.
Brook was taken to hospital a short time after the fight.
Following the bout some notable boxers decided to say that Kell Brook quit in the fight. It’s proven to be a highly contentious topic so far between everyone online to say the least.
Hopefully Kell Brook can make a full recovery from the injury and we’ll see him back in the ring again soon, whether at welterweight or super-welterweight – time will tell.
