Hall of Fame fighter turned promoter Oscar De La Hoya breaks down his beef with the Mayweather v McGregor fight.
The Mayweather v McGregor fight, if it happens that is, has been widely slammed in boxing circles from a competitive boxing match standpoint.
It’s hard to see how a UFC fighter with zero professional boxing matches can beat the best boxer of this generation in a straight boxing match.

Even writing that sentence just now about McGregor’s boxing experience, it just doesn’t seem like a logical situation when you think about it twice.
But, when has good old logic and boxing ever mixed?
It’s about what sells, at the end of the day. In my opinion, the fight will bring more eyes to boxing and that can only be a good thing, surely.
I don’t think it risks damaging boxing like Mayweather vs Pacquiao did, like some have suggested. McGregor is an MMA guy and can go back to the UFC if he loses.
This is much more of a freak show than the above, which was meant to be a legitimate meeting of the two best pound for pound boxers.
It was in a sense, but just a little too late. Well after it should have happened. Floyd ultimately put on a boxing clinic, did what he always does and that was that.
Mayweather v McGregor has a more carnival, WWE feel to it.
It will be what it is, too. If it generates big interest in boxing and cross promotes the sport with MMA fans and the wider public, surely that can only be a good thing.
