Heavyweight champion arrested for drugs possession

Unbeaten Heavyweight champion arrested on possession of marijuana on Wednesday afternoon.

The WBC ruler Deontay Wilder, was arrested in his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama after a traffic stop around 4pm on Wednesday.

However the 31-year old Wilder was released shortly after following a $1,000 bond.

Deontay was stopped for a tinted window violation and gave permission for officers to search his vehicle. During the search a “small amount of marijuana was detected” and Wilder was arrested for “misdemeanour possession” according to attorney Paul Patterson.

Mr Patterson stated that the illegal substance did not belong to the Heavyweight champion of the world. The Cadillac Escalade was reportedly used by somebody else during Wilder’s time in Georgia.

With no timeline on Wilder’s next defence of his WBC crown, this will hardly effect his future plans.

Wilder is actively looking to set up a unification with WBO champ, Jospeph Parker, optimistically hoping that fight can be set for July this year.

Meanwhile Bermane Stiverne remains the mandatory challenger for Wilder’s prestigious crown. But Wilder has his eyes set of unifying the division. A clash with Anthony Joshua being at the top of his agenda.
