Golovkin Might Hang Up The Gloves After Canelo Fight

Gennady Golovkin might be calling it a day in the ring sooner than people think following recent speculation around his future.

It would seem rather unlikely, one would have thought at least, that a man so dominant in his career could be considering calling it a day soon.

Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin seems like there are still so many fights out there for him over the coming years.

Rumors of a Golovkin retirement following his upcoming Canelo fight in September started a few weeks ago, but nothing came from the man himself directly.

However speaking in an interview with TMZ, Golovkin cited that the matter was his business – but that his wife was not happy with the amount of time she saw of him.

When asked if Canelo would be his last fight, he replied:

“Maybe, maybe…”

Perhaps this is just a passing phase that Golovkin and his wife might be experiencing.

No doubt a Golovkin retirement after his fight with Canelo would upset a lot of boxing fans. Whether or not it happens though remains to be seen.

Golovkin is currently getting ready for the start of his official training camp for his fight with Canelo Alvarez on September 16th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
