Paulie Malignaggi puts the boot in on McGregor following his defeat to Mayweather. Bitterness still remains from the ex-sparring partner.
Paulie Malignaggi on fight week was not as noticeable in the Showtime Sports broadcast as he was in the weeks leading up to the fight.
Although he was involved on the night, an incident during fight week with him and Floyd Mayweather suggested that he was in cahoots with Mayweather which led to questions about how objective and impartial he would be in a commentating role in the fight between the American against McGregor.
Malignaggi left the McGregor sparring camp after the Irishman’s team released photos of a spar that didn’t please him.
After the fight with Mayweather, Malignaggi didn’t have too many positive things to say about McGregor. Malignaggi told IFL TV:
“He’s not the gutsiest guy. He stops punching back. He goes into pockets of action where he doesn’t throw back at all. He starts throwing less and less, he doesn’t want to fight you when he’s tired. And then finally at the end he basically let himself get stopped. He started stumbling around all over the place. He was hurt but he wasn’t that hurt, stop stumbling around bro. What are you stumbling around for? He was looking for a way out of the fight.”
There has been a heavy level of speculation that Malignaggi has been angling for a future boxing match with McGregor and that he will pursue this in the coming months.
If Paulie’s Twitter is anything to go by, he’s not a bad self-promoter himself in this regard, so anything’s possible. For the full interview with Kugan Cassius of IFL TV YouTube (hat tip) check it out here:
