His handlers mentioned it was simply the usual business strategy Mayweather uses in terms of the time frame in which he pays his taxes.
And that if he was in any hot water with the IRS they would ‘come and take his stuff’, CEO of Mayweather Promotions Leonard Ellerbe said recently.
Speaking in an interview with Hollywood Unlocked following the McGregor fight where Mayweather was reported to have earned in the region of $350 million for the fight, the boxer said:
“Even if I wanted to f*** off all my money, I can’t because I learned to work smarter not harder. When I went to my billionaire buddies I never said ‘Oh I love your jet, I love your house, I love your yacht. Show me how it’s done.’ And there’s only three ways you can learn – hearing, seeing and doing. ‘Show me how it’s done. Okay – I got it.'”
He added:
“What I tell my children is, ‘Listen, never get rid of this investment. You keep this and give this to your grand children and tell them when I’m gone you never get rid of this.”
