The Carl Froch reaction to the news Andre Ward is retiring from the sport of boxing at the age of 33 might not surprise many.
One of only two defeats in the career of legendary British fighter Carl Froch came at the hands of Andre Ward.
A comprehensive unanimous points decision victory in the ‘Super 6’ super-middleweight tournament back in 2011 in Atlantic city for the American.
Froch has always insisted that he is not a fan of Andre Ward’s fight style in years since. Ward for his part has always been humble towards Froch, never keen to get into a slagging match with his old foe.
Although Froch gave props initially today to Ward following his retirement news when speaking on TV to Sky Sports, he then mentioned it was a shame and went on to say:
“With that style it doesn’t really get the juices flowing, it doesn’t really get people excited. I don’t think the TV broadcasters were giving him too much love in America. He had a couple of big pay days. He earned his fair share, he had a good career but maybe he’s not earned what he wanted to earn and not had the success and the accolades he felt he deserved.”
