Luke Campbell showed why boxers are such a rare breed after a story came out only after his fight with Jorge Linares in California.
Boxers are perhaps some of the toughest, most courageous of all sportsman experienced has taught this writer over the years.
Unique people.
Britain’s Olympic Gold medallist Luke Campbell lost a split decision to boxing maestro Jorge Linares last weekend but he has won the hearts of many fight fans after it emerged that only two weeks prior to the bout the Englishman’s father had sadly passed away.
His father, Bernard, passed away aged 58 after a long battle with cancer while Campbell was in the US making final preparations for his fight with Linares.
The fact that Campbell not only took the fight under these extremely sad circumstances but performed as well as he did, tells you everything you need to know about him.
A heart of a lion.
No doubt his father was smiling down very proud of his son’s performance on the night. One that will have grown his stock considerably in the world of boxing.
The Olympic Gold medallist over the last two years has relocated to Miami to train under respected coach Jorge Rubio.
The move clearly is showing positive results in his development and I’d expect an even better version of the 29 year old next time we see him back in the ring.
