WBO middleweight world champion Billy Joe Saunders and Lemieux won’t be on each other’s Christmas card list this year by the looks of things.
Saunders recently defended his world title against American Willie Monroe Jr and was expecting to get an immediate crack at the winner of Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez until that bout was scored a draw.
The WBC have ordered that the rematch take immediately too, so Saunders may have to wait until late 2018 for his shot at unifying 160lbs.
He’s been linked with a host of names since the Golovkin-Canelo draw, including welterweight Amir Khan even, but now a new name has come into play.
Canadian David Lemieux currently finds himself on a four fight win streak since losing to Gennady Golovkin a couple of years back and wants a piece of WBO champion Saunders.
Speaking on Twitter, the two have been going at it back and forth already.
Following Lemieux saying he is waiting patiently for his next opponent, Saunders stepped in with:
“P**** you was my mandatory and you was saying you was injured. Come fight me no you little f****.”
To which Lemieux replied:
“We did make u guys an offer but your over pricing yourself, another way of saying no, you coward. When I fight you you’re ending in hospital.”
To which the champion retorted:
“Make me a offer don’t talk s*** – come over for December. I hold the title you come to UK – we will see what happens.”
For those not familiar with Saunders’ work, here are highlights of his win over Chris Eubank Jr via BoxNation YouTube (hat tip):
