Chris Eubank Jr reacts to Groves stopping Jamie Cox in the fourth round to move on in the World Boxing Super Series.
One interested spectator in last night’s George Groves vs Jamie Cox fight was one Chris Eubank Jr, who will now face Groves next up in the semi-finals of the World Boxing Super Series in the new year.
Following Groves’ fourth round stoppage win over Jamie Cox Eubank Jr gave a frank assessment of what he saw from both fighters.
Speaking to Kugan Cassius of IFL TV, Eubank Jr said:
“He got the job done. I wasn’t overly impressed. He stopped him and moves onto the next round which is what we all wanted to see.”
He added:
“He put up a good fight (Cox) while it lasted, disappointed that he couldn’t muster the courage to get up. He wasn’t completely out. He could have made the ten count if he wanted. His heart obviously wasn’t in it.”
Both Eubank Jr and Groves have a long history of sparring together over the years and know each other very well as fighters.
Often times this can result in a fan-friendly fight in the ring.
Having said that, there has been a lot of time since the days the two sparred, with both men now completely different fighters to be fair.
Groves holds a professional record of 27-3-20KO and Eubank Jr possesses a professional boxing record of 26-1-20KO.
