The Abner Mares vs Andres Gutierrez highlights in what proved to be a solid fight for the WBA world featherweight title.
Mexican warrior Abner Mares is well known to boxing fans the world over for his fan-friendly all action style and once again put this on display last night, but was made to work hard.
Opponent Andres Gutierrez more than showed his metal in a bout that ultimately he lost.
In the end, Mares won a technical decision on the night and improved his professional boxing record to 31-2-1-15KO.
The champion began to find his home with the jab relatively early on in the bout and also scored a number of clean right hands on the challenger.
Gutierrez attempted to give his all and rally back during periods in the mid rounds, but it was not to be enough to get away from the Mares right hand, with a cut opening up over the left eye as a result on the challenger.
The cut continued to be a problem as the mid to late rounds progressed and by round 10 the referee had to call in the ringside doctor to see if the challenger could continue.
He deemed he could not.
