‘Wiseguy’ Frank Buglioni defended his light-heavyweight British title tonight on the Anthony Joshua undercard. Post-fight report.
The Londoner squared off against Craig Richards who was given a little over a week’s notice before tonight’s fight, so massive respect has to be given to the challenger.
Buglioni started off as he always does. On the front foot and pressing the action.
He had to ship some punishment early on from Richards because of this fight style but overall, the champion took many of the opening rounds.
Round 3 brought about a decent spell for Richards though. He had good success with the right hand in particular.
As the bout progressed into the mid rounds, Richard’s showed some solid defence. This did not deter Buglioni however, who kept coming forward and pushing the pace.
Buglioni maintained a strong work rate in the middle to late rounds but as the bout wore on this output had the inevitable impact of gradually slowing him down.
It allowed Richards in spurts to land right hands of his own in answer to Buglioni’s.
The champion finished the final round very strong to close out the fight in championship fashion.
He was awarded a unanimous points decision by all three judges with the following scorecards:
117-111 117-111 116-113.
