Oscar De La Hoya surprised at Spence’s choice and makes remarks questioning how well he is being promoted at the moment.
Oscar De La Hoya has in the past spoken of his admiration for the ability of one Errol Spence Jr.
Despite the fact he is not involved in his career and does not promote him.
Spence is thought by many to be one of the very brightest stars not just in American boxing – but in the world of boxing.
His dismantling of former welterweight champion Kell Brook in Brook’s home country of the UK earlier this year further proof.
It was announced recently that Spence will next fight Lamont Peterson for an estimated purse believed to be in the region of $3.5 million next January.
Speaking at an event Oscar De La Hoya told Fight Hype YouTube (hat tip) of his surprise at the news:
Spence is currently advised by influential boxing manager Al Haymon in the US.
Haymon and De La Hoya famously had a falling out in the past that ultimately led to a dispute in court which was then settled.
Earlier this year it was reported that both men had put the past behind them after one reporter told fans on Twitter the two were seen sharing an awkward embrace in the corridor of a well known Las Vegas hotel during a big fight week earlier this year involving Canelo Alvarez.
