Haye vs Bellew 2 will still go ahead, despite a torn bicep to David Haye that caused the original rematch date to fall out recently.
Haye incurred the injury in a freak accident just weeks before what was expected to be a December 17th part two following their first fight last March.
Haye fell off an aerobic machine in the gym and as he landed he tore his bicep.
Now however it has been confirmed today that the fight will once again go ahead on the new date of May 5th at the O2 Arena in London.
This will give Haye ample time to recover from the injury which he successfully went through surgery on about two weeks ago.
He’s already doing some training again but full punching and sparring will be January at least.
Bellew was linked with a number of fights in Haye’s place if the rematch could not be agreed for a new date, but alas, he’ll have his chance to show that the first fight was no accident.
Bellew shocked the world last March when he stopped Haye inside the distance in their heavyweight bout.
Here is Haye’s reaction to today’s news:
I’m pleased to confirm Haye Bellew 2 The Rematch will take place on Saturday 5th May. Whether you witness the showcase live, or tune in from home on Sky Box Office, you will not be disappointed. I will give fans the ending to the Haye Bellew saga I have promised ?? pic.twitter.com/RfwLvdGZf9
