WBC heavyweight champion of the world Deontay Wilder confronts his nemesis and likely next opponent after a controversial year.
Cuban heavyweight Luis Ortiz went 28-0-2NC last night with a knockout victory over Daniel Martz in Florida live on Premier Boxing Champions.
It marked unexpected fight for Ortiz having been banned earlier in the year, just a few months back no less, for failing a drugs test before a proposed fight with the WBC champion Deontay Wilder.
The ban was lifted to allow last night’s fight go ahead.
Wilder subsequently had a rematch with Bermane Stiverne and won by emphatic knockout but mentioned how Ortiz acted this year affected him hugely mentally at the time.
He was ringside at Ortiz’s fight last night and you could tell that tension was in the air when he got in the ring to confront him afterwards, shouting at him on TV:
“I blessed you with the opportunity the first time and what did you do?”
It is thought that Wilder vs Ortiz could be next up sometime in March, as Anthony Joshua is currently being tipped to fight WBO champion Joseph Parker next.
Also in March.
Should both men win – a unification between Wilder and Joshua is being aimed for in late 2018.
Here is the moment that Deontay Wilder confronted Ortiz last night:
I blessed you the first time, boyyy you better get on your knees tonight because God have blessed you with a second time @kingkongboxing I’m about to whoop your ass and This I PROMISE.#BombZquad #TheRealestChampionInTheBusiness #PBConFS1 #WilderOrtiz pic.twitter.com/VKCEQTccL4
