Lomachenko vs Rigondeaux TV ratings are in, and they are quiet impressive from first looks of them to be fair.
The bout was shown on ESPN in the US last night and enjoyed a strong run in before the coverage started for the boxing action.
The main event according to an ESPN press release, states that Lomachenko vs Rigondeaux was the second most watched boxing match on cable in 2017 – according to Nielson research.
Pacquiao vs Horn is still the top rated event watched this year on ESPN with a rating of 2.4, but – Lomachenko vs Rigondeaux came in at a very healthy 1.5 last night to give it runner-up spot for most watched fight in cable this year in the US.
Las Vegas and Tulsa were the top local markets who watched the fight according to the press release.
This marks a very strong start overall for ESPN’s new boxing content in 2017 and ends the year strongly.
The deal started earlier this year and (it seems) to once again be reaching a younger demographic of fight fans in the United States.
The boxing was shown on their TV channel and their app combined – giving significant reach across North America.
2018 should be interesting in terms of how Showtime and HBO will respond to this growing boxing audience by their TV rivals in the US boxing, ESPN.
