The 2017 prospect of the year award is particularly difficult this year in boxing, given the plethora of new talent that is bursting through in professional fighting worldwide.
While there are many, many international fighters to consider this year, it is perhaps important to remember that prospects are not really fighters on the verge of fighting for significant or major titles.
More so fighters fighting for domestic titles in their home countries but who have shown world-class potential in their careers to date.
In this regard Diego De La Hoya gets an honorable mention this year as an omission from the shortlist compiled by Boxing News and Views writers in terms of the final nominations.
As he has graduated from prospect to contender really this year and could easily fight for a significant title next year.
Every continent produced new fight talent to keep an eye on next year – in a year that continued to see boxing become more and more of an international sport.
